Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the Istanbul Society of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery Specialists, I am more than happy to invite you to join us at our third annual meeting.

The Istanbul Society of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery Specialists was founded in 2008 and since then had realized two successful congresses.  The third congress is to take place on April 8-9, 2011, in Military Museum Convention Center, Istanbul.

This year we plan to hold a meeting that will differ from previous years. We targeted a conference where all our colleagues will have the opportunity to meet with the highlights of the future of our profession, learn and inspire from the gained eminent experience of our veteran Turkish doctors and from the knowledge of our colleagues from America and Europe.

Our congress is meant to be inspiring and attractive due to following;

  • Technologically rich environment,
  • Provision of the opportunity to try a variety of medical instruments via hands-on workshops,
  • Having interactive sessions utilizing pads,
  • A wide area reserved for the ENT Expo,
  • 3D surgical demonstrations.

We are in an era that Otolaryngology as a science is intermingled with technology; just like DNA spirals; and we do aim to assure that all the attendants will be satisfied. A wide range of new and advanced technological applications from the objective measurements of nasal airflow to transnasal esophagoscopy; from middle ear implants to robotic surgery; will be available for the attendants to listen, observe and even experience at the meeting site. We believe most of the attendants will be content at the end of the meeting, with unique and valuable information about the latest technologies.

Our congress is to host prominent speakers from all around the world.  The President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery, Ronald B. Kuppersmith, MD, FACS will join us to share his expertise in robotic thyroidectomy, and yet enlighten us about “How to help raise stars in the field of Otolaryngology” and “Organization Scheme of an Effective ENT Society”.

We are to have Cüneyt Alper, MD, FACS, from Pittsburgh, USA, to deliver lectures on the topic of pediatric otolaryngology. Part of his lectures will be in an interactive fashion. We are to have Santdeep Paun from London, U.K., to conduct an interactive session on rhinoplasty, which will be followed by a lecture on “Maxillofacial Traumas; ENT doctors’ role using an endoscope”. Man Magnusson from Germany will bring his contributions about the field of vertigo. Ingo Hermann is to join us to teach us transnasal esophagoscopy.

From Ankara, Turkey, Mustafa Gerek, MD, will join us. Mustafa Gerek is to master a full-day workshop with live surgery in the field of Snoring and Sleep Apnea, an extension of a highly successful course that has been taking place in Ankara for the past few years, with a limited number of attendants. He will be organizing to deliver the same material in Istanbul for our congress attendants.

We had announced that Metin Önerci would be one of the lecturers. Unfortunately, he will not be able to join us due to another ongoing activity under his responsibility.

Our meeting is to have another society, called SKYBD (Voice, Speech, Swallowing Disorders Society), to contribute to the meeting. They will emphasize on swallowing and esophagus.

We are to have distinguished physicians from Istanbul as speakers. I need to remind that, this congress is not a “sit & listen” type of congress. We are to have interactive sessions. Besides, the topics are arranged in such a way that the related issues are gathered, which will be followed by related hands-on workshops.

We added a roundtable on the issue of business: “How to become successful?”

We will accept poster presentations, where the best poster will be chosen by a jury. The winner will receive an iPad as a gift. There will be a project contest to be announced later.

Although we worked hard on the scientific content, we did not neglect the social part of the meeting. A half-day trip to see the most exciting sites of İstanbul will be offered for the willing participants.

All our efforts are for humanity, for health, for our ideals and for you.

Respectfully,

M. Mazhar Çelikoyar
President
Istanbul Society of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery Specialists
